I was wondering if anyone has had any success in 'touching up' the black crinkle paint on their S2 dashboard?

The handles on the end of my heater and choke levers are badly chipped and I am keen to improve them. Worried that it could be a very obvious touch up if I am not careful.

Just wondering if anyone has any good tips?

Hello Ash,
You don't touch them up, you strip them to bare metal (very easy) prime and repaint. The crinkle paint is heat sensitive when wet (heat activates the crinkle). Once prepared for paint, warm the part slightly, apply crinkle paint (fairly thickly) and control the uniformity of the crinkle with judicious use of a heat gun.

Not what I would normally suggest but when I had the same issue I found it cheaper to buy new knobs rather than refurb the originals

Worth reading up on how to apply crackle paint and in particular the curing process.
Use of the family oven may land you in hot water!

Hi Ash.....A couple of guys i know have removed the paint from the knobs ..they are aluminium.....looks quite good unpainted...Steve

Not sure if Steve was referring to mine but this is them polished...


Sorry if the pics are not the best quality but I had to zoom in on the original phone pics. I’m sure you get the idea anyway.

I thought similar and bought a replacement knob - thoroughly horrible to pull on, compared to the original Jag knob. It had different shaping where you hook your thumb under it. So, as my car is now in a million pieces, I will re-condition the original with crackle paint. I also printed off a new label as the one I bought was also rubbish.
