Hello, I need some Informed wisdom please.
I have a series 2 e type fitted with a Rob Beere spin on conversion.
The oil pressure relief valve is the canister type that's totally sealed and has the nut end on the housing with no form of extension to it
I know the spring inside is weak , I can push it down with hardly any effort at all, it springs back up without a problem but the spring is very weak.
I need a new valve .
Sc parts supplied me with an xj6 s1 valve , it has a 1 inch maybe inch and a half form of extension on the nut, it looks nothing like the one that's fitted , internally yes but externally no.
As stated it's the sealed canister type .
Can I use the xj6 series 1 type of valve to replace what I have .
I just cant find a direct replacement .
It's not the separate top hat and spring design , it's a sealed canister type of relief valve.
I'm really needing to get this right after a couple of dodgy engine rebuilds from a so called "specialist " based in Devon advertised on Ebay, yes I should have known better !!! , both rebuilds lasted exactly 200 miles and in strip down I found a multitude of horrors.
I've rebuilt my engine, properly .
This is my last hoop to jump through.

Thanks for your reply , I'm pretty certain it's a series 2 e type filter head .
On stripdown I found the beehive oil bypass valve floating around in the housing .
Amazingly this was one of the horrors the"specialist"failed to notice , along with a binding crank on new shells , stripping them down to copper and basically having unfiltered oil pumped around the engine wrecking the entire block and cams ... oh , and a failed attempt to remove sludge plugs in the crank , one head was totally chewed up so they obviously gave up at the first attempt, the crank was full of swarf , sludge and grit...9k later I elected to do it my self convinced I couldn't do a worse job!!!.
I think it's time for a rogues gallery of " specialists " to help other e type owners sort the wheat from the chaff.
There are some fantastic companies and individuals out there but a few rotten apples also .
Unfortunately I was taken in by the latter.

Hi..The small beehive valve that you found is the balance valve....which operates if the filter becomes blocked the relief valve operates if the oil pressure is too high....im not actually sure how easy is should be to actually operate the valve by hand (screwdriver) i assume you could calculate this to psi by useing the diameter of the valve and how much force you used......you could try http://www.rob-beere-racing.co.uk/ or SNG..either one i would actually call to discuss....please let us know how u get on....yes the houseing look like its probably a S2 E type....I would advise that you fit a wet oil guage.....looks like you have the fitting for it....Steve

This oil filter housing is from a series2 fitted to later cars from eng. nos 7r2298 (swb) and 7e35583 (2+2) . There are ones available on Ebay but they are expensive.
