Finally in a stage where I install the torsion bars, can someone confirm the correct distance between the center of the holes on the adjustment tool for my Series 2 OTS without powersteering and air conditioning.
See lots of values but my Haynes book say 17 13/16 which should correspond to 45,24 cm.
I will go with the factory setting but if this value correspond to my old setting which IMO is a little to high, to lower the car slightly I should decrease the value a little, am I right. One spline at the rear splines should lower the car at a minimum.

One spline at the rear is a big adjustment. There’s a different number of splines front to rear, so by changing one at one end, then going one the other way at the other end, you get a very fine adjustment.

Look in the genuine workshop manual for all the lengths of setting bars. There were a few different ones used over the years, and also for different specs of cars by the time the S2 came out.

I go for 45.4, it's somewhere in between.
I was a little quick when I wrote one spline, I will make a shorter tool and then find the best alignment between front and rear splines of course.

Here is one I did earlier.

55 year old torsion bars dont want to play by the book settings I find.

Stage 1 45.6mm.
Too High! At least it was level.

Stage 2.
So I thought I would be clever. I knocked the TB ears back and clicked them around one whole spline. I thought this might be a 2 inch drop. It was more!
Too low!

Stage 3. Start from scratch.
I redrilled the tool at 43.5mm.
That is where it stayed.

from my restauration thread:
Managed to get the TB’s in place, much more work than expected.
Checked the old markings I made and they ended up measuring 44.5 cm on the right side but 45.5 on left side? so I decided to keep it 44,5 on both side for now.
I had got the impression that it was possible to move the TB when the adjustment tool and the drop shaped bracket was in place but no. The TB wasn’t in a straight line between it’s mounting points so I had to have to set the lower wishbone horizontal, parallel to the floor to be able to loosen and turn the TB and then press the drop shaped bracket back in place again.
At least both side have the same height now.
