#1 Remote starter solenoid location

Post by allenjdeg2 » Fri Apr 17, 2020 7:26 pm

Hi guys, my 1969 FHC remote starter solenoid is located I believe in an odd place. It’s on the right side fire wall shelf below the wiper motor and windshield washer device. Is this the original location? I’ve explored all of the on line engine photos but can’t find one that reflects the original placement. Any photos would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Allen,

On later S2 cars the starter motor relay is mounted on the bulkhead as in the picture below. I have also seen a different bracket arrangement but again on the bulkhead. The change coincides with the addition of a ballast resistor.
Earlier cars have the starter relay mounted inside at the bottom of the screen pillar as in the second picture.

Allen : my early 1965 car had the remote solenoid ( not the relay ) exactly where you describe i.e. below the wiper motor

Strange; mine is a late 65 and my solenoid is on the starter motor too?

Thank all of you for your responses and your time. I’ve been cooped up for the last three weeks and the E has allowed me some entertainment. I guess the remote starter solenoid “button” is in the right place. I just installed an aluminum radiator and new fans. Nice to see the gauge at the “O”. Thanks again, Allen
