Could I trouble some Guru out there to educate me how to check and top-up gear box oil S2 69 4 speed manual

The box filler plug is on the left side. It's a hex head with a fibre washer.

To get the level you put oil in until it starts to leak out the filler hole. A "Tom Thumb" type oil pump is the best choice. The box holds 1.7l.

If you're going to the trouble of doing this, I'd drain your oil and replace it with Redline MT90.

Be aware that some later S2 gearboxes have the filler on the right but without a hole on the transmission tunnel to get easy access.
Andrew has very good points about how to go about the task

I have folded back the carpet and soundproofing on the left side and can't see anything? I can't find a reference in my manual either. Maybe I should actually read it LOL
Some say left others say right....I'm confused.

It depends on the age of the car. My August '69 car has the filler on the RHS. Earlier cars were all on the LHS.

If you can't find yours on the LHS, it'll be on the RHS.

Just to add confusion to this post...some cars have the access grommet on the left but the gearbox filler on the right...my UK 69 2+2 is like this........Steve
