Colour of front suspension wishbones
#1 Colour of front suspension wishbones
On my series 2 FHC the front suspension wishbones are gold coloured. Is this down to the eccentricity of a previous owner or might it indicate an aftermarket source?

Maybe it's a typo and they are gold? Passivated zinc perhaps?

Sorry for the typo - yes gold coloured. Not crudely painted, either.

Jonathan, the wishbones should be either cad plated or black. Most were cad plated but on my S2 FHC I found no trace of cad. And I did find black paint in hard to get paint into places on them when removed. My car had never been disassembled as I knew the original owner. I did some painstaking research and found that some Series 1 and some Series 2 cars did leave the factory with the wishbones sprayed black. I could not find why but some were painted black.
Most people have them plated with clear zinc, which looks silver, because cad plating is obsolete these days.
