#1 WELDING AND CHICKEN WIRE ON BONNET ?

Hi Gents,
I'm going to have to replace the front under panel assembly on the bonnet because it's all rusted, but when disassembling it I found that the previous owner had welded it to the main bonnet at the ends. Is this normal ? The guy at SNG told me that the bonnet parts are just secured together with nuts and bolts. Also, In the center of the bonnet that sits in front of the radiator, there is a square of chicken wire ? Is this normal because I can't find it in the SNG catalogue. Thanks for any advice you can give. -Mike

The mesh is original. It’s there to protect the radiator.

Okay, Tom, thanks a lot. That's what I thought, too, but just wanted to male sure being a newbie E -type owner.

Jaguar part number BD31976 - if you put that into Barratts search box you will find what you require.

There should also be a type of sound deadening material sitting on top of the wire mesh frame between it and the bonnet which you need to be sure to keep if it is still there as it is no longer available as a part number.
If it is missing I have found an alternative which works just as well.

Okay, thanks for that information, guys. And I just found out from SNG USA that the RH and LH air ducts and valances for the bonnet are no longer available unless you buy the WHOLE bonnet. Any idea where else I can buy them ?

Hello Michael,
Chuck at Monocoque Metalworks can help you with the Air Ducts. If by "valences" (plural in your post) you mean the Lower Valence Panel (that panel the forms the lower section of the Air Intake), then that panel is indeed still available from most of the usual suppliers.

Bill
