Wondered why my car starts when not in P & N - appears the safety switch isn't even there and the wire connected straight to earth!!! It's listed as C25463, but not available anywhere. Does anyone know of an alternative switch or got a used one spare?
The S2 wiring diagram doesn't show it either, so what is it connected to
Cheers, Geoff

I would not be dogmatic about it, but I think that these inhibitor switches are a common part fitted to most BW gearboxes . If I am right about that, then you should be able to use a BW35 switch which is a commonly available part . The switches are a simple on/off plunger type mechanism, but they do require to be correctly adjusted ( locknuts are used ) so that movement of the lever closes and opens the plunger at the correct positions . Graham Whitehouse will a. be able to tell you and b. probably able to supply you

This switch looks the same as c15270 switch which was fitted to all Mark 2 saloons fitted with the dg gearbox.

Thanks for info. The BW35 switch has quite a wide body, which may touch the Rev light switch, but have found a straight one for an XJ6 and Land Rover, which might work
Steve - Had been using the coloured wiring diagram from the tech pages, rather than the SM one - now see that shows the switch wiring! Also it was the previous articles that made me realise my switch was missing, so lots of useful info on here
