Window winders

HI all
Is it normal that the windows in the doors dont go all the way down?
Both mine leave about maybe 2 inches above the top of the door poking out
Its annoying as I can't comfortably hang my elbow out

On my FHC, it's only about an inch in the center of the opening that remains exposed, but same effect: it makes it very uncomfortable to rest your arm on the door top.

Same here; think it's standard. You'll just have to work at it to get that truckers arm

It might be a 2+2 thing. On my 1969 FHC they retract flush (unless I choose to leave them partially up of course!)

Different size doors I guess so maybe they are different in this respect

I have looked inside and the winders retract the mechanism all the way to the bottom of the door
So no chance to get them to go lower without cutting some of the glass off the bottom
Kinda silly that jaguar couldn't have taken another inch or so of the bottom of the glass and make them retract flush tbh
Plus its made it a pain for me to get the weather strips of to replace them because some bodger has used self tapping screws to fix them to the door skin top
Glass covers the heads so I can't unscrew them
Means I will have to strip the whole door down to get the strip off
How annoying!
Having said that after rebuilding pretty much all the mechanical and rubber parts on the car I have found and fixed lots of bodge jobs
For instance the deliberately cut off feeler guage blade in the front right upper ball joint to try and take the play out of the totally ruined socket!

Yes, isn't it simply that the 2+2 has more 'loft' to the roofline, in turn requiring taller glass, and therefore you ain't ever going to get all that extra glass to retract into the same depth cavity?

Jaguar used same dimension doors other than length and just fitted taller glass causing this bit of glass poking out of the top of the door
