#1 Fuel dumping

My '69 FHC just began flooding when attempting to start. Fuel is dumping through the front carb into the air cleaner cannister and running out the bottom. The fuel pump can be heard clicking away until the ignition is turned off. Seems a rebuild of both carbs is necessary but has anyone else had this problem and found the cause?

Mickey, with two carbs I guess you’ve got Stranglebergs. As UK S2 cars had triple SUs you might find better knowledge over on jaglovers, or have you already asked on there?

Your float/needle valve isnt turning off when the chamber is full....could be the float or the valve...ah....ok is it Su,s if so the above applies......if strombergs...not sure.....Steve...

You can try cleaning the float valve and seat with carb cleaner injected into the front carb fuel supply fitting to remove any petrol gum first.
If that doesn't work remove the carb from the manifold and replace the float valve and seat which is what I did when I encountered the same problem. Not a difficult job to do, instructions are in the Service manual under the emissions section iirc.

Float needle sticking
Tap side of carb bowl and it will probably cure it
Best alternative ofc is to replace needle valves and seats
If you don't use an older car that often and run it on modern fuel they can stick
Hey even the older fuel used to stuck them but not as much
