Torsion Bar Shields
#1 Torsion Bar Shields
Hi all,
I’ve removed a rather buckled torsion bar shield from the car. The opposite side is missing too. As a training project, I’m going to get our new apprentice to make me a new set, but I’m not sure what the bend radius is meant to be -circled in the images below. The ones on SNGB look to be 45 degrees, but in other pictures it might be 90. Could anyone confirm for me please?
Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard
Your first picture looks familiar!!! All the ally panels on mine were very mangled and coated with a thick layer of oily road dirt.
Managed to straighten and clean them up. Guessed the angle to be about 45 deg, as they fitted OK at that.

So.... the apprentice did good??....
I’m very happy with what he has made. However, the original part was made from very soft aluminium and I told him to see if there was anything a bit tougher in the off cuts... in his excitement and drive to do a good job he clearly missed the last part ‘off cuts’!... I now have two torsion bar shields made from aviation certified titanium! About £1k of metal!
They’re currently drying post being sprayed black. When I explained that I was grateful, and about his mistake, he quickly responded with, “boss, there is now some some off cut titanium if you want anything else making”... so his project next week is a new exhaust heat shield!
I’ll get some picture up next week.

The over engineered titanium shields are complete.
The exhaust heat shield is still work in progress! I’ll get a picture up once completed. The plan is to make them double skinned with a air gap between to reduce the heat being transferred.

Now what price for a production run of both? Come on, tempt me to buy a set
They certainly look the job, well done

Excellent work Richard If it's any help, this is a heat shield a friend of mine made for me, again from aircraft grade titanium complete with titanium bolts and brackets. He did the heat shields under the car as well.
