The appropriate Jaguar parts catalogue has all fastenings detailed in a code which seems a bit abstruse at first but which you soon get the hang of.
The individual fasteners have numbers which contain a code to denote their type, thread and length. Thus purely by way of example the setscrews which hold the headlamp scoops in are 2 of UFS 119/6R and 4 of UFS119/8R which means UNF thread in size, setscrew , 1+ hexagon, 19 is diameter in 100ths of an inch ( this equates to 3/16) 6 means 6/8 inch long and r means wrench driven
The codes are given on this list

I hope this will help

Further to Christopher's reply, "special" bolts are only described with the Jaguar part number and not dimensionally. This is a little annoying but often the usual vendors website will show a picture which aids in identification.

Indeed. Their catalogue is actually quite good. Sadly that is all that is good with them. Look at their catalogue and order from elsewhere.

best book by far is this one: http://xkebooks.com/
The factory parts manual is not illustrated, just a list of parts whereas the after market one above has 450 pages of drawings and lists. It also comes on as CD ROM. Not cheap but the gold standard. SNGB web site has some excellent exploded drawings of S2 parts.

I'm very interested , David, that you say the factory manual is not illustrated. I cannot speak for the S2, but my 4.2 S1 parts manual has illustrations covering every area of the car, as does my Mark 2 manual . Did they abandon this for 1969 ?
And, curiously, the references in the xkebooks catalogue mentions J37 and J38 as the factory illustrated parts guides for S2 SWB and 2+2 cars respectively

Christopher
Here is an example chapter:
9. Suspension & Steering: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ljcpqxaz50b5n ... s.pdf?dl=1
As you can see it was produced on a typewriter with no illustrations. Obviously the S2 cars share a lot of parts with its older sister but you need both the S1 and S2 SPC's.

Do you think that what you have there, perhaps , is what was called the Interim Parts List which was to be used in conjuction with J37 and J38 ?
The xkebools very definitely mentions both the Interim Lists and the J37 and 38 which are specifically described as illustrated
J.37 - SPARE PARTS CATALOGUE FOR JAGUAR 4.2 E TYPE, the complete illustrated parts catalogue for the Series I 4.2 OTS and RHC models.
J.38 SPARE PARTS CATALOGUE FOR JAGUAR 4.2 E TYPE 2+2 GRAND TOURING MODEL, the complete illustrated parts catalogue for the Series I 2+2 model.
It also refers to the IPLs as typed
IPL (1968) - JAGUAR INTERIM PARTS LIST FOR 1968 Jaguar 4.2 E Type L.H. Drive and 1968 Jaguar 4.2 E Type 2 + 2 L.H. Drive, a typed parts list showing primarily the updates to J.37 and J.38 for 1968 model year.
IPL (1969) Interim Parts List 1969 JAGUAR E TYPE - OPEN, FIXED HEAD COUPE, 2 + 2 MODELS, a typed parts list showing primarily the updates to J.37 and J.38 for 1969 model year. Far more comprehensive in scope than the 1968 IPL.

The S2 parts book does have a whole lot of the illustration plates as a separate section in the back but they're not linked to the text by the numbers on the illustrations like the S1 book. Just a small tip: Roman numerals were only ever used on the large ‘Mark’ saloons and stopped at X.
The compact saloons, XJ, E-Type etc. used normal numbers.
