#1 What colour should the inside of the 'mouth' be?

Having recently acquired a Signal Red 1970 Series 2 FHC 4.2, I'm in the process of carrying out some 'improvements' to it. The bodywork is generally in very good shape, although the previous owner has used (brushpainted) red Hammerite smooth paint copiously to protect various hidden areas of the bodywork, which is a surprisingly good match for the car's body colour. One such area is the 'mouth' of the car, which houses the two scoops which feed the heater and the air cleaner, and makes the opening look quite 'busy' with metalwork, baffles, etc. I've studied various pictures of E-types and on some, they have the area in body colour, whereas in others, aft of the lips of the opening, they appear to be blacked out. I'm minded to spray the area inside the mouth in satin black to conceal the gubbins behind the chrome bumper bar. Is there a definitive way this area should be finished however?

I'm not sure Ian, but mine is body colour, and most I've seen are like that.

Ian, welcome to the forum, the best place for all things E Type.
Is it possible some of the photos you’ve seen just look dark inside the mouth area due to shadows and hence look black? Mine is body colour.

Happy motoring

Geoff
