#1 2.88 Differential - LSD??

Post by Retroman » Sun Mar 27, 2022 9:05 pm

Hi

Dropping the axle oil out of my UK 1969 2+2.
Is this diff an LSD type?

I have searched manuals etc but cannot find the answer.
I have been told that some diffs were not.

Anyway of visually checking?

I do nt want to put the wrong type of oil back in.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Nigel.

69 2+2 as far as im aware wouldnt be a lsd.......easy to check. .....jack up the rear end turn one wheel. .if a lsd the other side wheel will turn with it in the same direction.....also a small metal tag was fitted to one of the lower rear cover bolts with the diff ratio stamped on it and PL also stamped for power lock(lsd)..... Steer clear of LSD. It will do you no good.

Otherwise, as Steve says, if both wheels go in the same direction your diff has LSD.

Hi Nigel......just realised your post is ref 2.88 diff.....but you mention 69 2+2.......so im presuming its had a diff change?.......a 2+2 wouldn't have had a 2.88 originally......Steve

Hi Steve,
Omitted to mention it is an auto so the 2.88 diff came as standard.
Will jack the wheels up and see if they turn together!
Thanks for the help everyone.

Hi All,

Wheels turn in opposite directions so have assumed it is non LSD and filled it accordingly.

All you comments are once again much appreciated.
