#1 Replace exterior door handle
How difficult is it to remove the door handle and replace it with a new one? Can this be done without removing the window and window mechanisms? Can you access the internal hardware that’s holding the handle and lock to the door? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Allen. 1969 Series2 FHC. KEY LOCK IN HANDLE.

I’ve just reassembled mine from a bare door shell, albeit the door handle was the first thing I fitted !
I reckon that you could do it with the glass and window frame in place, just a bit fiddly and small hands needed to get to the fixings.
It’s just 2 small nuts and studs to undo.

As Tim says, it can be done, I've just removed and replaced the external handle with all the door lock and window in place. Just be careful of dropping parts and make sure you check how everything is connected (take photos) before disassembling it. Also check the door locks work from inside and out before replacing trim.

In the top picture of this link you will see on the RHS of the picture an adjusting screw which strikes the latch mechanism arm when you press the door lock button. If this isn't correctly adjusted, the door will not latch properly. It took me a while to figure that one out.

I want to thank Tim, Geoff, and Andy for your help. I was a little hesitant to tear into my wife’s E’s doors without some understanding of the mechanics. It really wasn’t that bad and the new handles look great; they even lock now. It’s nice to have friends across the pond. Allen.
