#1 Wiring Harness

Post by JC » Fri Jun 03, 2022 4:49 pm

I've laid out my harness aapproxiately where it goes and uisng a mixture of my own labels, photos, a multimeter aand various diagrams I've generally managed to match up and test connections.

I've a couple of problems - and hope I'm missing the blindingly obviously!!

Following that part of the loom that goes down the passenger side, along the picture frame and back along the driver engine frame, I've a couple of pairs of wires at the end of the loom looking for a good home. Now they're not for the starter motor, oil pressure sender or the sensor on top of the inlet manifold (already connceted). They're not for the starter motor relay (anyway these come from a different of the loom).

Each pair (I'm only assuming they're pairs) includes a 90deg connector and and a straight connector - one is Red/Black(ish) and Black, the other is White/Brown(ish) and Black.

Surely they can't connect to 'stuff' on on the bulkhead?

Can someone put me out of my agony!!

Also i've some spare wire down by the horns - are these redundant air conditioning wires?

Cheers, John C

John, where did you buy your wiring harnesses from? There have been various reports of spare wires as the harnesses are a catch all for all possible features on the car. Do you have the wiring diagrams from Coventry Auto Components? They are well worth getting and very helpful and will show which wires might be redundant in your harness.
Also look here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=700 to find the colour wiring diagrams for the S2. They are great for finding wires of particular colours and then seeing where they go. I think a red/black might be for the fan motors when the car has air conditioning. Download that to your iPad (other tablets are available  ) and keep to hand and even print it out as large as you can to have to hand during your work.

Good luck

White brown should be oil pressure. And black red the otter switch.

To clarify, this is the original harness - and these are original wires (some others have been replaced). The engine came out at the start of COVID (a clutch change project) and some of my labelling has either fallen off or become unreadable in that time.

John

I have large printing facilities at work and have sent out quite few large prints of the harness diagrams to forum members.

They are a very useful workshop/garage addition and seem to be well received.

No charge - it’s my small way of giving something back.

PM your address if interested and will put a set of various sized prints in the post to you.

Cheers
Ash

Just a quick postscript. Will be at the E Type Club weekend so can bring any prints to that if anyone needs any and is attending.

Ash very kindly sent me a large print of the wiring diagram. It has proved invaluable. I have carefully drawn in all the electrical upgrades I've done (headlamp/ ignition relays, hazard flasher, fan override, etc etc) - easy to do with the large scale. Can't recommend it highly enough. Many thanks Ash!

Yes, Ash kindly gave me my copy at Stanbrook Abbey on Saturday morning - start of the Etype Club run.

It now sits very usefully on my garage wall!!

Glad it is useful John. And for the other kind comments.

Love doing it as it allows me to give something back to this wonderful forum.

Cheers
Ash
