I sent my speedo for repair. It was returned to me but still did not work. I returned it and It came back to me with the needle working OK, but not so the odometer & milometer. I have tried it with the reset cable connected and disconnected.
The main reason for this post is to ask about the reset cable. Mine is, I'm pretty sure, the original but I'm wondering if it's missing a spring? As with other reset cables that I've had on other cars, I feel I should be having to press against the knurled knob which should, I feel, be spring loaded? And which way should I be turning the knurled knob to reset the odometer? Anyway, I'm sure that someone will educate me. What would be very helpful if someone could upload a picture of the relevant page of the owners handbook dealing with odometer reset.

Knurled knob is spring loaded as you can see and you rotate anti-clockwise IIRC to zero the trip.

My series 2 is not like that - I have a plastic knurled knob with no spring. There's a sticker on the speedo that states to turn the knob clockwise to reset. No pushing required. Simply turn the knob until the trip dials all return to zero.

As far as I know, this is the way for Series 2...

Ditto, though no sticker on the speedo. Maybe David’s info is for the S1 cars?

However page 19 says “The trip figures can be set to zero by pushing the winder upwards and rotating clockwise.” Though as Richard and I have found, no pushing just rotate.

Barratt’s show part no C26162, which is valid for S1 2+2, all S2s and S3s

Mine is late S2 (Jan - 1970) and is as David’s post.

Not plastic.

Been in family since 1973 so confident of provenance.

Mine is '69 and very original - and is like Richards, with the plastic end you just rotate!

Just to add some (possibly) useful detail into this thread. Here's a picture of my speedo sticker, lovingly applied to the instrument some 54 years ago in Coventry, and has resisted all urges to remove in the intervening years. Also one of the end of my reset cable - all original for a 1968 built S2 as far as I know, and certainly unchanged in the last 45 years its been in our family. It also is positioned exactly where the cutout is for the cable in the underdash millboard panel.



Interestingly, my Series 2 parts book shows the cable assembly as part number C26162 - a number of suppliers show this with the spring loaded end, but SNG show it as matching my car setup with the plastic knob for rotating only. They do show C15468 which looks like the other cable mentioned in this thread, but is listed for a S1 only, not a S2. No idea why a S2 would have this part fitted unless speedo was changed for an S1 item, and I don't even know if that's a done thing...

Andy, Richard, Ash, Malcolm, what are the part numbers on the face of your speedos?
Mine is correct for an S2 mph as 6332/08 1120
Maybe one or other has a replacement speedo from an earlier car with 6322/ as the first part number?

Thanks everyone for your input. Very helpful. May car was built very late in '69 registered in early '70.
My speedo face has the numbers SN-6332/08 1120 with a small sticker on the back showing 089.
I've attached a photo of my reset knob. The knob has very little in and out movement particularly when connected to the speedo and there is no space to fit a spring so I'm guessing it's as it should be. The square drive at the speedo end is permanently engaged with the reset mechanism input shaft, so as you've said just turning clockwise until the counters all read zero? Just sending my speedo back to the repairers for the second time. I think I've just been doubly unlucky. Fortunately the Royal Mail office is a 5 min walk away.

Andy - looks like we have the same speedo based on the numbers Geoff quoted, which match mine and yours. On that basis it should be twist to reset. I think you may need to twirl it a few times until they all read zero and you win the jackpot...
