#1 Roadster Interior mirror fixing

I've been trying to find the correct way to fit the S2 plastic interior mirror (C28516) onto a roadster screen. My car currently has a home made bracket fitted directly below the boss at the top of the tensioning rod. This works fine, but I like to put things back to 'standard' if I can. I've seen some mention of it being glued to the screen - if that's the case, then I may leave things as they are. As you'll see from the attached photo, the boss on mine has also been drilled out to accept a bolt/nut to hold the sunvisors - I'd also like to install a standard boss with the correct screws.

Grateful if anyone has any insight or pictures of a correct factory set-up for this style of plastic mirror - I've tried, but failed to find any appropriate images online or in the forum.

Richard, why not fit an earlier mirror from an S1? They fit to the rod correctly and aren’t the awful S2 plastic.
Just a thought, cheers.

Thanks Geoff - since my father binned the S2 mirror and fitted an S1 item around 40 years ago, that’s what it had! I finally sourced an original Wingard plastic one a couple of years ago, which I wanted from the originality standpoint, and also because it irked me that the original had been thrown away. I still have the S1 mirror, but I really want to know how the correct one is supposed to be fitted. I don’t remember it being glued on, but maybe memory deceives me.

Thanks David, but is that definitely for OTS? If it's glued on, then it can't be mounted centrally.

Ye, of little faith!

I seem to recall it came from Pilkington with the boss already mounted centrally.

Hi Richard,
I believe this to be correct for Series 2 OTS apart from the spread of the adhesive. I copied it from the original mounting when replacing my original screen

Here some measurements off my OTS, when I installed a new Pilkington windshield. This is where the mount was sitting on the old windshield. It is/was not centered. It also was not the original windshield I believe, since was stamped as Royal Doulton. So the measurements might be off. My mirror had a broken adjuster, a friend made one up out of aluminium, it was before 3D printing came about.

So, I had a go at fixing the mirror to the screen. Wasn't successful using 3M VHB tape, although a firm setting glass adhesive may have been better.

Instead I designed and 3D printed a simple 2 piece clamp that mounts on the screen tension rod. Works perfectly and easily removable. Also will allow me to swap the (some say) hideous plastic mirror for the earlier versions...
