I’ve used the Spiyda kit in the tachometer of both of my S2 cars. It is fairly easy to do and works very well.

+1 for the Spiyda kit
Series 1 FHC purchased 40 years ago. Courted my wife in it.
Series 1 2+2 when the kids were small now sold.
Series 1.5 OTS in opalescent maroon, Californian car. My retirement present.

+ another for the Spiyda kit though I've had quite some difficulty with calibration. Not the fault of the Spiyda converter I hasten to add.
My problem showed in that in the car, I never got above about 2k rpm. Calibrated using 100, 200, 300Hz sound files OK. Restored to the car and soon after, not giving correct rpm's again, always low.
Chris at Spiyda advised on moving the brass weight on the rotor and this got me there. I suspect it may be moving due to car vibration. If it does again, I'll have to recalibrate and stick the weight with a tiny application of cyano glue. Not too much or it will affect the calibration!
