#1 Seat fastening and workshop manual

Hi, me again asking more questions! I have had the seats out of my DHC as they wouldn't slide and I couldn't press the clutch properly. On re-assembly i really don't think they are in correctly as firstly I would have expected some sort of spacer between the rear mounts and the floor and secondly the front mounts don't line up with the holes in the floor meaning that once everything is tightened down, the seats won't slide again as I presume the runners are being twisted due to the miss-alignment. I was going to buy a workshop manual as the Haynes really doesn't have any details at all on the interior fixings but there is little point if there isn't any detail in the workshop manual either. What I would really like is an exploded diagram of what components make up the seat mounts so I can compare with what I have.
Does anyone have such a diagram or could confirm whether or not the workshop manual goes into this sort of detail? I have lots of these sort of issues as my car appears to have been taken apart but not reassembled with much case meaning I cannot trust how it is now to guide me in putting it back together!

Hi Chris.....the Jaguar service manual dosnt have every bit of detail....however if your going to work on your car yourself then its a must.......SNGB should become your first "go to".....look on their website they have detailed diagrams of each model.......But again not always 100% exact......also look at SC parts they have a great site with detailed diagrams.......from SNG you can get a hard copy catalogue. ....SC no longer supply hard copy but really worth going on ebay where you can pick one up.....also look in our knowledge base section.....we have service manuals and parts catalogues........also google is your friend....google e type seat fixing etc.....Steve ps SNGB diagram

Chris - front end of the seat mounts are slotted, and slide under the mushroom headed fitting BD27434 that should be bolted to the floor along with a plain spacer BD17648. The rear end is bolted to the floor with just the spacer BD17648. I suggest that the SNG Barrat website is an excellent source of appropriate diagrams and the part numbers needed - excerpt below:

Thanks have downloaded the workshop manual but it doesn't have exploded diagrams like the one posted. By the way - how can I view the image? When I click on it, I am taken to '
https://postimages.org/' but it doesn't show the image itself. It does look as though I am missing at least the spacers at the back mount under the rain. This doesn't explain why the mounts don't line up though but I will take the seat back out and see if I can find that 1/2" somewhere either in the rails or some adjustment on the floor.

To view that image, right click on it and select "copy image link". Open a new tab on your "device" (I'm assuming laptop or PC here) and paste the link into the address bar, enter! should get you the picture OK.

Thanks all, looks like another order from SNGB as I don't have any of the collars under the rails (35). On a connected note, something not shown on the SNGB diagram, my inner front mount screws into a captive nut in the floor pane but the other 3 corners are nuts and bolts. Is this correct? I suspect maybe the outer front should also have a captive bolt and that may be why there is a discrepancy between the width of the rails and the width of the holes.

No nuts and bolts......should be as per the drawings.....looking at the parts catalogue will tell you what parts are uses ...Steve

Thanks - have checked the diagram but it doesn't show what is under the car (assuming anything). Looks as if 26 + 28 are the bolts through the runners into the floor and 30 are the bolts which attach the runners to the seat. So you are saying that all of the runner to floor bolts should go into captive nuts in the floor?

Yes. But if the floors have been replaced or the captive nuts have rusted away it is quite acceptable to use nylock nuts.

Before floor replacement, mine was bolted directly through to the underside with nuts and bolts. I think the captive nuts got corroded rapidly from new.
