#1 Federal E type Stormier Carbs vs federal Triumph Stags

Post by Srottley61 » Wed Jun 26, 2024 12:50 am

Evening

Does anybody know the difference between ZF Stromberg carbs fitted to federal serial 2 E types vs those fitted to Federal triumph Stags
Jet sizes etc
Have nice set of reconditioned Stag carbs and wonder if they would work well on my 1970 E Type

I think Tripe SU's add around 10-15HP vs the twin Strummers, an anyone confirm

Can anyone conform additional HP from triple webers?

Thx

S

Dear S,
the Stromberg manual lists all of the different metering needles in the appendices in the back. It'll probably tell you which were fitted to which cars.

Do remember the engine you are feeding is the same, so there is no significant power difference available unless you can flow more air into the engine. For practical purposes, until you are reaching maximum rpm, you can always get more of that power by pressing down harder with your right foot.

In any case, what you really want is more torque and you want it between 1500 and 3500 rpm, since that is where a road car does most of its accelerating. If you set up your carburettor/engine/cams/etc to deliver that and do it without flat spots, then you probably get more of what you really wanted rather than worry about textbook power numbers that are 50 years out of date on a 50 year old engine.

kind regards
Marek
