As a newcomer to the E-type business who is thinking of buying, a quick question: Is there a database somewhere with car numbers (VIN) from which you can find the origin and colour configuration of the vehicles if they are not listed in the XKE database?
Thanks, Klaus

It’s possible that Jaguar Heritage could help but as you can see it will cost:

Many (most?) cars have been repainted so may not have their original colour. Even when the original colour has been reapplied it may not be the correct shade. Our FHC has been parked next to three other light blue cars and no two were the same shade! Also owners decide to change the colour to one they prefer. The colour of the car is not important unless you feel it must be concours to the original manufacture and enough concours car have changed colour, I was parked next to one yesterday.
If you want to buy an E Type, find the car in the best condition, ignoring the paint as that can be either tidied up or re-painted.

There are three things to look for when buying an E Type: rust, rust and rust!
Get any car you are thinking of buying properly inspected by someone who understands E Types. Not just classic cars but E Types. There are a few on here in Germany whom you could turn to for help.
