#1 Glove Box Locked

Post by Czwbkx » Mon Jan 20, 2025 4:20 pm

The previous owner misplaced the glove box key for my '69 FHC. Does anyone know of a minimally destructive way to open the locked glove box?

Thank you.

They are quite simple locks....a thin blade inserted and giggled about and you could get lucky....or a locksmith could probably pick it....Steve

Thank you. I used a combination of the two answers above. After removing the outer trim ring the lock mechanism was just loose enough to allow use of a thin blade to depress the lock tang. I'll order a new cylinder assembly and key now.

Thanks again for your help.

Take the lock apart and the key number should be marked on it.
Series 1 FHC purchased 50 years ago. Courted my wife in it.
Series 1 2+2 when the kids were small now sold.
Series 1.5 OTS in opalescent maroon, Californian car. My retirement present.

It is not difficult to have all locks keyed alike. Either ask a locksmith or find a few old locks you can take apart and swap the leaves about.
