Hi All,

Does anyone know the correct way to connect the fan motors on a series 2. I have the original Lucas ones and they have a 1 and 2 in the 2 spade connectors on the motor but I’m not sure which should be connected to the black with green stripe wire (live) and which should be connected to the earth (Black wire). Help gratefully received.

I'd look at the wiring diagram. Then I'd check it by connecting the fan motor terminals directly to the battery for a quick test. Depending on the type of motor you have, it may make no difference which way it is connected.

kind regards

Hi Marek,

I had a look at the wiring diagram and it doesn’t say. Just wondering if anyone has an original motor could have a quick look. I should have taken a picture but I just disconnected them without thinking.

So I think I’ve managed to find a good photo from a original car

So based on this black wire (earth) goes to the terminal marked 2, Black wire with green stripe (Live)to terminal 1. Hope this will help someone with a similar query.

Dear Rob,

you need to follow the advice and then verify that the fan turns in the correct direction such that it pulls air through the radiator, rather than just follow a "form over substance" approach. If it all looks pretty but the fan pushes air towards the radiator, your car will simply overheat one day.
