I have an XKE series 2 with a new SNG wiring harnes installed. Problem some of the gauges don't light up -- but the bulbs are turning on. The face plate is blocking the light from coming forward. Any ideas as to how to solve this problem??
This is not a problem with all of the gauges. Gauges effected are Charging; oil pressure; fuel. All of the lights on all gauges illuminate but the light never comes out to the front. I can't see any difference in gauge construction!
Thanks for any help you can provide..... Al

Probably the small plastic coloured filters inside the gauges. They melt/discolour restricting a lot of the light. The only fix is to remove the gauges and either replace them with some good used ones, remove them completely and just have white light for your gauges or fit coloured LED’s.

As you probably are aware, some of the gauges are running through the 9 volt stabiliser to ensure accuracy of the gauges reading. Is it possible that the 12 volt illumination feed is incorrectly now connected and now running at 9 volts? Worth a check, just measure at the bulbs, looking for battery voltage. I have replaced all my gauge bulbs with LED's, they are not expensive, brilliant white and available in screw in and bayonet fittings. The one that is not so bright is the alternator as if you have the original 4TR regulator with the 3AW warning light control they run at around 8 volts which is not very good on a 12 volt bulb. Well worth going the LED route.. Good luck with your car, best wishes, John.

LED Bulbs work well.
