EZ elec steering failed

I have a series 1.5 with an Ez s2 steering kit fitted.
It’s a good car that I’m recommissioning for my elderly father as he’s not driving anymore and it’s fallen into a bit of a sorry state.
The early Ez Steering is not working, so I’m after a few pointers as to what could be the issue. The main fuse is ok, but I do know that when he tried to jump the dead battery the leads were connected the wrong way, which is more than likely the cause of the issue.
Anyone got any suggestions as to what to check? I’ve tried getting in touch with ez with no joy yet.

First, verify the voltage with a meter or test probe at the power connection to the steering control unit (a dedicated inline fuse for the steering may be in series with another fuse at the main fuse blocks). Now, with the car not running, and in a quiet environment, cycle power to the EZ unit. If its internal relay is activating, you will hear a soft 'click' sound when the control unit is energized. Note there can be a delay of 1-2 seconds after applying power before you hear the click. Also ensure the wiring for the force control reostat (the small knob that adjusts the steering force on the early EZ units) is intact/connected. If all that is good, you may have a dead control unit.

Thanks Steve, I’ve tried as you say and no click, so looks like I need a new control unit.
Interestingly though, I don’t seem to have the little knob for adjusting the assistance, but there is an inline sensor on the Speedo cable. I’ve looked up the old invoice and it was supplied in 2014.

The inline sensor tells me your unit is newer than mine. Am not sure if the speed sensor on yours could be a culprit, but I don't think so. Is wring from the speed sensor intact?

Visually all looks well with all the wiring.
I’ll see if I can get a new control unit and go from there.

If the polarity has been reversed with the auxiliary battery that's likely that the electronic part of the EZ did not like this treatment....

I assume the main power feed is connected directly onto the battery and not from a fuse? It has to be.
I have found this does make a difference to the reliability of the power steering unit.
