Can anyone advise if the early boot covers were different from the later cars. The part number for the Series 2 roadster is different from the earlier 4.2's. I have one for my series 2 but it is new and hasn't had all the hardware fitted. Where do they attach to the body of the car? I know the straps at the front attach to the rear bulkhead .

There should be two plastic-coated metal clamps stitched into the front corners to clamp over the bodywork just behind the doors. There are also a pair of metal hook plates each side to clip under the pair of chrome hooks above each rear wing where the back meets the sides,

Early covers were cloth but they later moved to vinyl. According to Eric Suffolk they used to use offcuts of hood material to make the covers (obviously Mr Arthur Whittaker, Jaguar's chief buyer, was involved in this ) but if they ran out they would use the cheapest alternative - vinyl.

I recently bought a new soft top and cover from a large manufacturer in Germany and the cover also came without fittings. I had the top installed by a professional trimmer, no problem.

However, I have been unable to find a supplier in Europe so far who can or will supply the cover fittings separate from the cover. I have tried Barratts, Limora in Germany (SC Parts), Kolvenbach in the Netherlands and also XKs Unlimited in the US, all without success.

I have managed to find a trim manufacturer in the US who I have used before that will sell me fittings for my trimmer to install, but they say they are not normally asked for this and are very surprised that anyone would sell a cover without fittings in the first place. The fittings they make are leather covered.

Does anyone know any suppliers in Europe who can or might supply the fittings without a cover?

Update on my search for hardware for the hood envelope..............

I spoke to MCT and Martin Robey (couldn't get through to Suffolk & Turley), neither of whom could help, but the guy at Martin Robey suggested i try GB Classic Trim (http://www.gbclassictrim.com/).

They were very helpful and promised to have a set in the post to me today. Hopefully it should be sorted before the pilgrimage to Silverstone at the end of July.

i have recently purchased soft top cover from classic jaguar, austin texas for my series 2 dhc. Good fit with all hooks etc installed as they should be. I believe local US manufacturer.

I believe they source their interior trim kits from Suffolk and Turley.
