#1 jack your body

Post by snowdmc » Wed Sep 07, 2011 8:59 am

have a bit of a dilema, my car has no jack, seen the occasional metallifacture ones come up on ebay, i'm guessing this scissor jack is the correct one for series 2 2+2. Does anyone else use a different jack instead?

I'm loathing forking out ?70 for a second hand rusty jack :) - but have a selection of old jacks in the garage, i guess it needs to be one which mates with the nugget on the sill, and i have seen these before, just cant remember which car?

Series XJ cars use the same nipples each end of each sill as the long wheelbase E-types of all flavours, so an XJ6 jack should fit.

Any of the Metallifacture ones with a little box on the business end with a round hole to slip over the stud should work. SWB ones mostly have the same jack but with a square 'cup' on the end instead of a holed XJ box, to sit over a square pad halfway along the sill.

This is a cantilever type not scissor. I don't think there was ever a scissor type for E-types? By scissor I assume you mean an Acme bolt connecting opposite sides of a diamond shape that gets taller as the sides are pulled closer together?

yes sorry, was a bad example i didnt mean scissor as they are the diamond ones that get thinner as they go higher, i meant the cantilever one you mentioned.
