#1 bumbers rechrome - pricing ?

Post by Beastieboy » Tue Oct 25, 2011 8:04 am

Hi - can anyone give me some indicative pricing for front and rear bumpers and over-riders for a S2 1970 FHC ? I have no idea what to expect or anything to ask / check when getting quotes. Any recommendations via email appreciated.
thanks
Steve

I had all my S1 bumpers and overriders done ( slightly less metal than yours) for ?395 about 3 years ago. Vernon Moss Electroplating, Brighouse, West Yorks made a very good job and it still looks good today ( I was recommended to them by Hutsons) . Damian Moss is the boss, 01484 710153 , and they are well used to classic car jobs . Another firm who does good work is NyPhos in Crewe , as does Derby Plating Services in Derby who is regarded as the absolute top, but they charge accordingly

I heard about a Southend place from someone else Mike who is buying some bits from me. Apparently they do cheap and cheerful if you were, say, building a hack or they do a pukka triple plate job. Which was yours for that sort of money?

Pete,

Quite happy with the job they did for me. Took about 6 weeks to do the job. Not sure how many plating processes the bumpers/overiders went through but they look fine. Place was called Hockley Enterprises. Took 6 weeks for them to turn it around, but I am lead to believe that most plating companies turnaround is not fast. From their advertising they do all sorts of plating including for the aerospace industry.

The one thing you need to know about plating is that cheap jobs are the dearest in the end. You are definitely better off paying more for a proper job in the first place. There is nothing worse than finding you have to do it all again 2 years down the line . This seems to be a hazard more in the US than here, but that may be because there are more jobs done there

just dropped my bumpers off to a company in Cumbria we have used for many jobs, they are nearer ?800 for the bumpers only as my overriders are perfece, it is very expensive compared with what you guys have paid, have never seen any rust or pitting on any jobs they have done for us but it does seem very dear compared with what you guys have paid.
