#1 Gas Gauge

Post by Francis » Mon Aug 26, 2013 5:37 am

Hi guys again,

One quick question about the wiring of the gas gauge.
What color should the wires to and out of the gas gauge be?
Where do they come from?

My wiring chart shows me two green/black wires coming from the same relay.

When I try to start the car, I get starter movement but I don't hear the gas pump and it does not start... The gauge does not show the amount of gas in the tank.

I removed the center facia to replace it and had to unplug all dial gauges and this is the result...

OK After re-studing the diagram, I found my mistake. I intervened the green/black from the water gauge. Now the gas gauge works properly and I hear the gas pump.

The car still does not start, but since I took the tach out, to have it recalibrated to work properly with my 123 Ignition distributor, could that block the current from going to the distributor?

Francis,

I think you may need either the rev counter in the circuit or, while it's out being converted, a jump lead between the two white connections.

The white wire from the fuse box passes through the rev counter en route to the coil. Inside it provides an induction loop for to detect the firing events and drive the rev counter.

I think I will have to convert mine as I have installed EDIS/Megajolt. Although, for my set up, I've read somewhere that the RVI meter my still work if the EDIS white power lead is connected to the rev counter rather than directly to the fuse.

Without the tacho you have no live feed to the ignition. As Chris has said, use a lead from a switched source to the power connection at the coil

I jumped the two white wires and she started on a dime!

Thanks both of you!
