#1 Missing engine and ancilliary parts on S2 FHC, LHD - help!

Post by harveyjag » Wed Oct 09, 2013 8:35 am

Hi there
With some trepidation I post this for your sage advice please (and apologise for the lengthy list)...

Got an S2 that was restored (well nearly finished) 20 years ago, but then parked up (in the dry).
The engine's out, head is off and there are shiny unused pistons, valves, head bolts, etc, etc. The bad news are missing items which I'm trying to understand and source.

Q1 The speedo /tacho sender - is this supposed to be on the rear of the inlet cam on an S2 or is there another system?
Q2 Again at the rear cams, there is an oil feed pipe connecting the cams rear to something lower down...what?
Q3 The bonnet strut / damper - where is it supposed to connect?
Q4 Where are the horn(s?) supposed to be?
Q5 The main ignition lock - I've got one, but it's dangling down in space - what should it mount to next to the steering and does anyone have a photo?
Q5 I have the two strombergs, but no connectors between the carbs and the air filter box - anyone have a spare set from an SU conversion for sale?
Rear view mirror - mounted on a rod, or stuck on the screen direct?
Many thanks for your help...

This forum has been invaluable BTW!

1. Tacho runs off the coil, speedo runs off the gearbox via a cable.
2. Oil feed to the cams.
3. 2 spring loaded hinges on early cars, gas strut BD36893 on later cars
4. Under the radiator
5. Not sure
6. Well worth the triple SU conversion although this is not cheap. you will need the manifold, water pipe, all linkages etc. These can be sourced used (EBay etc) or are about $5k new.
7. Mirror depends on whether it's a coupe or a roadster.

Not the best pic, but the Ignition switch is shown in the correct position for a RHD series 2. I understand for a LHD car the ignition could be on the right hand side of the column. Note the plastic cover is also missing. Lucas Part?

Hi Peter and Angus
The series 2 in Angus's workshop is looking amazing. There is a great pic there from the 19th September of the ignition mounted American style.
Angus, can that column be flipped around 180 degrees to be correct for RHD or is that part made specifically LHD?
This would also put the blinkers back on the right side as well :-)
Al

Hi Al,

that's what I have done and there seems to be no issues. Will let you know if there are!
