#1 Stone guard problem

Hi,
I have fitted a stone guard to my S11 OTS.
When I close the bonnet, the stone guard strikes against the otter switch, and wont allow me to close the bonnet.
Also, when the bonnet is partially down, the gap between the stone guard and the radiator is wider on one side than the other.
I think the bonnet needs to be raised in front, but if I do that, will I increse the gap between the bonnet wings and the sills ?
Any help is appreciated.

Is the stone guard the fitted correct way round?

Hi Johnny,
Yes, the guard is the right way around.
If I look in the bonnet vent opening at the front, with the bonnet closed, I can see that the radiator is forward about an inch and a half approx, beyond the six holes where the guard is to be secured to.
However, I can move the guard forward about 2 inches and secure it by drilling 6 new holes.
I cannot move the bonnet forward using shims on the bonnet hinges, because then I will have a big gap between the bonnet wings and the bulkhead.

If you have fitted the guard the other way around you get the problem you are experiencing. Don't go drilling any new holes until you fully understand what the problem is!

The S2 radiator should be vertical. Its base locates in the support frame of course, but the rest is located courtesy of two simple strips of steel. If you made these up yourself they are two long so drill two holes in cheap strips of steel, not six holes in expensive bodywork. If you positioned the radiator to fit the top hose then it's probably too far forward, because that hose is normally best trimmed an inch or so to prevent excessive kinking at the S bend.

I have an almost identical situation on my '68 S1.5 and have come to the following conclusions:
Either
a) Not the original bonnet fitted; it has been hacked in places.
b) Radiator is too far forward.
c) No stonegaurd was ever fitted.
The car is ex-USA and has changed spec a bit over it's life.
