#1 Series one front end on a series two?

Post by Joseph30 » Fri Jul 18, 2014 2:33 pm

Hi everyone, was wanting to buy a series 1 but have found a cheap series two for restoration. Is it possible to make it look like a series one by fitting a s1 bonnet or would it require too much modification?

Yep, bonnet fits. You will have to sort out the damping though (easy to do, either fit gas strut for S2 (best) or S1 spring arrangement).

No, S3 has a wider track.

Joseph, then you will have a 1 3/4 series.

It would look like a Series 1 from the front but you'd have some challenges at the rear of the car to make the lights fit unless you change the panelwork.

I didn't really thing about the rear because I thought it would be too difficult to change the panelling

You won't get the S1 lights to fit without reprofiling the S2 panels or replacing, sounds complicated to me, the S2 isn't so bad after all maybe ;-)

Well, I wouldn't mind an s2 rear and an s1 front, I guess it'll be a crossbreed

An S1 bonnet won't fit if you have an S2 with air conditioning using the big square compressor. The S2 left side air duct is cutaway to miss the compressor and the S1 is not. I suppose you might just clear it by a hair's breadth but suspect not. If it's a non-AC car or an AC car using a smaller compressore then fine.

If you want to 'improve' the rear of the S2 you can fit the S1 resonators, get rid of the square number plate, s/s back plate, reversing lights and fit the rear lamp clusters from a Lotus ?lan which are the same as the Jaguar ones but with integrated reverse lamps. Pete did it his car and Angus Moss offers it as an upgrade on his cars. More info here: http://www.etypeuk.com/forum/viewtopic. ... otus+light
