Ever since I got my car the tailpipes have hung low, the rubber mounting they were using was different to any other car I'd seen and I couldn't source an original part. I thought I'd struck lucky in the US and ordered a stainless one 5 weeks ago, it still hasn't turned up, a few days ago however a NOS one appeared on eBay in the US, I won that one and it arrived today. My tailpipes are now sitting at the right height, it turns out my original fitting was from an XJ6.

Ian,
That does look nice. I like how you have used the Lotus rear lights with the integrated reversing lights.
It is the one aspect of the series 2 that I think looks like Jaguar cobbled together in 10 minutes late at night. By the Series 3 they had made new panels to fit up to the lights rather than brackets and filler pieces.

Thanks Simon, I bought the lights separately, you can get new but they're not cheap, I sourced both of mine on eBay over a couple of months. They're not entirely straightforward to fit as the reversing light shroud obscures one of the mounting screw holes, a bit of levering was required to get a screw in there.

Hi,
Looks nice. Always liked BRG as my second best color after signal red. I notice it isn't a Series 2 exhaust. You know this? It's, as I believe, a series I exhaust.

Yes, I like those integrated reverse lights, a much neater set-up than the original.

It's a 2+2 right, that's why you had mount trouble? Now paint the plinth body colour and you're done. I had one picky MOT man who decided my numberplate wasn't visible enough tucked under the bumper, so he failed me.
I made up a wider stiff black plastic sheet with letters lower down that I stuck in place with blue tack just before the reaching premises and removed immediately after the test. Might be an idea to have something handy for Plan B if your tester turns mean next time...

I'll bear the number plate idea in mind Pete, my tester runs a TR4 and a 30's convertible though so he's classic friendly. The mount trouble was caused by having an XJ6 rubber mount fitted to the 2+2 tailpipes, it made them sit too low and obviously I had the same problem when I swapped to S1 tailpipes. I now have the correct rear mounting on and all is well.

Look on my site. I do this to all the S2 cars that we commission. Use the mounting plinth with that plate and it drops it down to the correct height (looks nicer ad well).

Very nice Ian. Noticed the modifications when you drove off yesterday and immediately noted how much nicer the S2 rear end looks with the long numberplate and Elan light clusters. Nice job.
