Uprated Heater & Fan - any good?

The heater & blower on my car are very poor, I'm thinking of fitting one of these uprated units:

Has anyone else fitted this? does it make a significant improvement?

If you just want more fresh air the Fiero upgrade is very worthwhile: viewtopic.php?t=2240 You could also consider the MG parts upgrade: viewtopic.php?t=3064

Unfortunately upgrading the fan motor overwhelms the heater matrix capacity so if you want more heat the M&C Wilkinson system looks to be going about things the right way. I was contemplating it myself although I would only want the heater matrix as I have the superb Fiero fan system.

Thanks David, I had read up on that and have previously tried searching for the Fiero fan but I suspect they're not so readily available now. My fan does work, the high speed not being too bad, it's the heat throughput which is poor. My fan/heater box is nicely painted but I suspect the innards didn't receive the same level of attention.

Fiero fans usually come up on US eBay e.g.: http://tinyurl.com/of4ryal or http://tinyurl.com/owfmxpg and you may need to do some arm twisting to get them to ship to the UK for some reason.

Is all the padding in place around the matrix inside the box? It's like not having the various ducts and foams fitted to the radiator - air makes a short cut instead of passing through the fins and taking the heat away.

You'll be wanting modern wipers next, then dual zone climate control :-)

I'm not that bad Pete, I'd just like a little bit of warmth and given that the engine generates a fair bit of it I should be able to get some into the cabin. I just try not to use the wipers, Rainx takes care of that

I too am refurbishing my series 1 heater box and am mistified as to what the flap does when open. It appears to block airflow from the fan and just send it into the engine bay, or am I missing something here?
