#1 Mystery plates

Hi
yesterday I removed the back seat and I found below 2 loose metal plates with a seal on reverse ; any idea if it belongs to the car and what it is for ???

Dear Rolando,
They look like the blanking plates over the IRS inspection holes at the back of the tub, behind the front seats.

I'm not sure where you mean; rather behind back squab ? would you have a picture ?
on this pic I can see something that could seem like it (2 square holes)

Marek has an OTS so for him they are behind the front seats. For you thry are behind the back seat. Do you have the parts book or just catslogues from vendors?

Be careful - of course these are the IRS inspection plates - I could not find a source for the rubber seal...

I have the Operating manual and parts catalog from Barratt
I'll remove the back seat squab to see what is behind; the seal seems reasonably OK
any operations / maintenance that should be done while there ?

Hi Ronaldo.....yes the square holes in your diagram are where the plates fit...they are removable so you can gain access to the calipers for pad replacement

I removed the 2 bolts and 2 nuts of the squab and discovered the secret access to the brake pads
the good news is they have been recently changed
and there are no bad news so far...! unless you think otherwise with your expert eyes !

Hi Ronaldo.....there is no retaining clip fitted to the the pin that goes through the top hole of the brake pad in the first picture, cant quite see in the 2nd, take out both pins on each caliper and clean them up to make sure that when you operate the brakes the pads can slide on the pins and move in and out and make sure the pistons move they can get siezed, also thave a look at the handbrake pads

The clips retaining the pads, are they suppose to be there?
I have purchased a set of new brakes, including pads, got the pins and clips to secure them but the clips shown here I have not.
Is it only for 2+2 maybe?

Have a look in the manual, re 4.2 brakes section page LY.s.12,13 it shows the retaining pin, cilp and anti chatter clip, if you dont have a manual there is a copy in the knowledge base section

Steve, the rear brakes on page L.Y.s.13 don't show an anti-chatter clip and my rear brakes certainly didn't have them. SNGB only show part JLM15391 on the front brakes for an S2 or 3.
Is it really standard for the rears?

Yes you are correct it dosent show them on the rear........on page 13.......I was just looking at the clip on p12.....not sure i have them fitted on the rear or if they need to be there

isn't the clip supposed to retain the axle from escaping its hole ?
in this case it's better to have one even if it's not on the manual...

I've put themissing retaining clip back, rescrewed the plates and finished the rear seat trimming and dying
very pleased with result, although I would have preferred a more glossy finish
