#1 Speedometer cable fixing

Post by Riv944 » Thu Jul 16, 2015 2:07 pm

My series 2 OTS has a problem with a bouncing speedo. I've removed the inner cable, cleaned and lightly oiled it and replaced it, made no difference.
I see from the service manual that the cable should be clipped somewhere but mine does not seem to be fixed at any point that I can see from where it comes out of the firewall, and where it disappears onto the top of the gearbox. I've checked the parts book and the SNG parts book and can't see or find any reference to a clip or fixing.
Should it be clipped somewhere? if so where and what with(part number if possible) ? A photo would help if you have one. Car is LHD so I think replacement cable is C24870 and I am coming England to the E Type weekend and could pick up parts if available.

Thanks

Ian

Ever wondered about those two holes in the stabiliser A bracket on the bulkhead ? This is what they should hold:

The clip supports the speedometer cable where it runs over the gearbox. The brackets are different for LHD and RHD; part #C17410 for RHD and available from Richard Smith.
