#1 Vehicle ID tags location

Post by Tbob » Fri Nov 11, 2016 5:00 pm

Gents,

I need to attach these two tags to my S2. The PO had bagged and tagged them, but I could use a good picture showing exactly where and how they were attached.

The bottom one goes somewhere on the rear bulkhead (behind the license plate?) the top one I think goes on the driver side door frame?

Also, as you can see, one is pretty deteriorated. Can replacements be purchased? :edit: I saw a source mentioned of CMC. Dont know how to reach them. Any clues?

Thanks much for any help you can provide.

Regards,

Bob,

The top one is for behind the windshield, on the a-post. (my guess is only the US had those, on the left on lhd cars. Could somebody please confirm that?)

The bottom one is the body number tag, it is riveted on the body from the rear, behind the tag, on the rh side. You should be able to locate
The original rivet holes?

Correct, the top one is on the A post about half way down the inside, mine is on the left hand side as mine was a LHD XKE S2.

Did not pursue this, but filed it for future reference. Hopefully someone who has done it will post.

That looks hauntingly familiar! Sadly I think it fell off when the shell was dipped to strip and derust it.

Is there a supplier for the windscreen tags?
