I am tempted to replace my air cleaner unit with Trumpets as Chris Rook did in his book E Type Jaguar DIY Restoration ( page 101 )
I realise the needles in the carbs need changing but was wondering if this would have an effect on my fuel consumption ? and also the noise level.
I am sure there are plenty of cars out there with this set up but thought I would ask before taking the plunge.
Whats your thoughts guys ?
Replacing the air cleaner unit with Trumpets concerns ?

So how are you going to stop dirt/dust and more from being sucked in...i know others use them but do you really want to risk it...........you could look at the itg filter......fuel consumption and noise will change, but are you really worried about that, after all you driving an E type

Don't do it unless you can source the correct shaped trumpets otherwise you will loose power. After a lot of testing the only ones I found that worked were the stub stacks produced by BCCP. If you want more power leave the original inlet pipes and plenum in place, ditch the air silencer cannister and fit a ITG Maxogen filter at £70. More power, perfect filtration and not noisy. Those generally available trumpets are absolutely useless. Everything you need to know is here: viewtopic.php?t=3394

Because they're basically trumpets.Heuer wrote: leave the original inlet pipes and plenum in place
I bought an AEM Power 21-206DK Air Filter which fits onto the bottom of the plenum.

Andrew, with that filter do you need to change the carburettor needles as seems to be advised with other replacement filters?
