I was wondering if anyone tried to replace standard BW8 3 speed automatic transmission with 4 speed automatic?
I need to replace my transmission anyway (there was sand inside the gearbox that destroyed oil pump and other parts).
Any help appreciated.

I know a garage in Germany, which has "mounted" an automatic from a X300 4,0 into a XJ6 series III. I don't know how they have solved the problem to fit the automatic to the motor of the XJ6.

If you have a word with CMC in Bridgnorth, England , they have converted a FHC ( not a 2+2) from manual to a ZF 4HP-22 ( I think ) , and as far as I know it has been a great success

Thank you! Probably ZF 4HP-22 is the best option as you don't have to worry about ECU. Will contact CMC

The freind of me has now driven his XJ6 4,2 with the 4-gear ZF automatic. The gear changes are a little bit "bumpy". He has now "hardy-disk. This is the rubber disk betwwen the automatic and the prop-shaft, which softenens the turn of the crank towards the propshaft. He is planing the add a hard-disc to his car and hopes that the car is becomming more comfortable.

My friend did the same conversion to his XJC and had a similar problem.
He fitted some kind of shift kit and it now suits the car much better and has smoother, higher, change points, so it is nuch more sporty for autocross. I think hard changes are often a box tuning issue to be tackled at source rather than masked with Jurid coupling.
Having said that, Jaguar did actually use them from 87 onwards when the XJ40 came out with its 4-speed, but that was for genersl refinement, not to cover a hydraulic control issue (IF that's why your friend's car changes hard). I think he has to be careful to fit rubber couplings 'in phase' with other joints or it wears out quickly.

G. Whitehouse Autos seem to offer a complete kit or will do it for you. Look under the heading Conversions on their website. http://gwautos.com/
