Having read the thread about the stolen E-Type and security issues I have a question,
I'm coming up to three months of ownership and decided to re-read the Factory Original E-Type book the other night. The dealer I bought it from changed the ignition switch but not the lock. According to page 114 of the book the RHD cars got a steering lock from Nov-Dec 68, but LHD already had it.
My car doesn't seem to have it, yet is a LHD OTS built in Nov 69 for the US market. It has the ignition switch shown in the right picture but is it possible the lock could be broken?

Hi John...once you take the key out you have to turn the wheel till it locks.....to unlock you put the key in and turn it as you pull down on the wheel till you feel it release......

I know the routine having grown up with 70's wrecks!
Just got the car out of the garage this afternoon. You can turn the wheel either way and there is no locking. It went a full turn each way.
I guess I'll have to strip it down and take a look. Wanted to have it as part of my security plan. Tracker being installed plus removable steering wheel.

Wow, never knew this! Mine's a '69 UK car, so should have it? I'll give it a go!

My 69 series 2 has no steering lock...according to the E type originality book (by Haddock), it was introduced a few cars after mine ( mine is RHD number 55). I'll check later and post the chassis number when this was introduced.

My S2 (1R20419) built August 69 has the steering lock, if that helps.
