Can anyone advise best procedure to fit the cards and manifold? During removal I had hoped to first remove the carbs and then the manifold, but struggled to get the carbs off due to obstructions. For refitting I would like to first fit the manifold and then bolt the carbs to it- is this possible or do I have to adopt a different approach.

Either way, I think I need smaller hands!

Assemble the carbs, linkages, return springs, inlet trumpets and fuel rail to the manifold first.

Run a die down all of the stud threads first, while the manifold is off.

Work from the front. Use a stubby ratchet spanner. It won't fit on all the nuts.

Don't forget the triangular rear carb spring bracket, and the two brackets that support the water pipe.

You need to get the rear throttle bar installed as you are offering up the manifold to the head. A bit fiddly and may need an extra pair of hands. Make sure the rront coupling (ball and bolt on fork) is in, then push the back end into the grommet on the bracket on the firewall.

I reinstalled a set of SUs today. Took maybe 15 minutes.

Interesting link...must admit that during removal it was only the bulkhead side bottom nut on the rear carb that eluded me. I managed to remove front and rear carbs without manifold and this helped.

I will attempt to assemble everything for replacement before it goes on the car other than linkage etc

It's easier on a LHD car than RHD.
