Surely something of a record price for a Series II FHC?

Interesting that the chassis number confirms it as a RHD car, and it's been fully restored, but somehow it's ended up with the wipers sweeping the wrong way.....

Surprised that it made that much
especially (£118,130 + fees), but it was a fully a restored UK RHD and with only 38,600 miles declared as correct from new. Strange that it also has red ring tyres, American spec cam covers and no UK info on XKE data

I *think* the US-spec cam covers with the cut-outs were common across all late-build cars. On the other hand the fan shroud should be crinkle black and the car's missing its alternator heat shield. And if I'm being ultra picky, the engine bay appears to be almost completely devoid of cable strapping and the rear bumper rubbers have been finished off wrapped round, Series 1 style.
Like you I'm not a great fan of the look of red band tyres - but moreover it seems odd to uprate the plug leads and manifold whilst downrating (from VR- to HR-spec) the tyres.

Here's another UK RHD car from an 2014 Silverstone auction with the same cam covers.

Guys...do we think that a total nut and bolt restoration leaves you with a 'very original' car? Every time I replace a worn rubber grommet or replace a washer I feel I'm chipping away at the history and originality of my car, even though it has to be done. Clearly a restored car is worth more than a non restored, at least in S2 guise

If you drove the car from new you would not think that service items would devalue the car, they would maintain it's value. For the same reason I believe that restoring perished/broken/missing parts cannot devalue a car. If you strip out everything and replace with new you create a new car and this is not good.
