Reversing light

My reversing light is not working. I've replaced the gearbox switch and cleaned the earth contact. The green wire to the switch and the green/brown from switch to light does not have any power and seems dead. I've bypassed everything with a separate feed and proved the light works. I thought I would rewire it but when I tried this, the fuse (no 7) burnt out and blew.

Any ideas. I'm wondering if I used a replacement wire that was too high amp rating although the fuse is 35 amp rated.

No such thing as wire with too high an amp rating. If the fuse failed it did its job as there is a short to ground somewhere. Check for broken insulation or chafing where wires pass close to metal edges. Do not be tempted to put a fuse with a higher rating or use a bolt instead of a fuse! That way you get an electrical fire....bad thing.

Me thinks my car is too precious to risk getting this wrong. I will invest in a mobile auto electrician to check the car over.
