#1 Engine number

Post by Bernie2015 » Tue Jan 10, 2017 4:49 pm

Im just fillling in the dreaded V55/5 to register my 1969 USA 2+2 and am trying to locate the engine number. I believe it should be on the bell housing flange. The only numbers on there are what looks like 71 66878. Does that make sense to anyone as it doesn't match whats on the ID plate 7R 360889 and it should start with a 3 according to the year of the car. HELP!!!

Bernie, please post a photo, that'll allow people to recognise what you are looking at with that 66878 number

I think 7L is an XJ6 prefix.

Bernie : it's a common swap - don't worry about it - just put 7L 66878 on the form or if you can read the suffix ( I can't from the photograph ) which probably will be H, S or L put that on at the end as well

Suffix is L (7:1 'emissions' CR). So unless it has been fitted with N (8:1) or H (9:1) pistons it won't be winning any drag races...
