#1 Header Tank Corrosion
I'm about to purchase new ( steel ) header tank after pin holes have appeared in the one currently fitted. Has anyone successfully coated interior of new tank to minimise corrosion? I don't want aluminium one as non standard appearance.

Mine is not coated, but I use "Evans" waterless coolant which will cause no corrosion and is a coolant for life. The boiling point twice (~200C/~400F) the boiling point of normal coolant, which will prevent the risk of hotspots in the heads with dropped valve seats as a potential result. Saved me once when the fans stopped working due to a blown fuse.

Corrosion shouldn't be a problem as long as you keep the system filled with the proper mix of antifreeze/distilled water. Problems crop up when some DPO went the cheap route and filled up with plain tap water out of the garden hose and then wondered why the header tank and the water passage ways in the block experienced corrosion. Part of routine maintenance is changing oil, lubricating the grease fittings, flushing the brakes and clutch hydraulics, checking hoses and CHANGING THE COOLANT as per its service life.

Mark is correct......conduct routine maintenance. Use the right mix, and you should have no problem. Simple....and Evans is a waste of money.

Nothing to do with maintenance. I fitted a new tank fitted to my V12 when restored in 2009, it was rotted through by 2017. It was only the exterior powder coat slowing the leak. Coolant 50/50 mix changed every two years.
However they are relatively inexpensive £70-80 and as long as you are aware they will corrode, when drips appear the source can be quickly identified. It does look like they are made from recycled Alfa Romeo sills, so if there is stainless steel or aluminium version on the market it must be a good option.
