Hi Guys, promised to update you when I finally got around to fitting the tacho. As per Colin's comments, I reconnected the plug to the tacho as original and plugged it back in as well as providing a new earth for the unit. Fired it up and all working well. took it for a few spins and all seems to be working fine. Maybe SR are just covering themselves by cutting off the plug.
Usual situation of getting rid of one problem and then another one appears (or is created in my situation). When fitting the tacho back into the car I dropped one of the securing nuts into all the stuff at the back of the unit and. despite my best efforts, have been unable to find it. Looked on SNG site but they only supply with a new unit. Does anybody have any idea where I might get one?
Thanks

You can get just the fixings, but they come supplied as a set, so expensive. David Manners has a kit for the S1 which may fit the s3, but will need to ordered as o/o/s.

Or, if you can find out the original spec, you can get thumb nuts from most fixing suppliers.
