Good afternoon all, hope you are all enjoying your weekend, just a quick question to see if my problem ( newest one!) has been seen before, basically took the car out for a 70 mile spin today, noticed that all of a sudden my oil pressure gauge was reading zero!!!!
However, the oil pressure light was still extinguished, carried on drivingg a bit and the pressure gauge started working again, then it stopped!!! This carried on for the whole trip, not once did the oil pressure light come on, engine running well, no smoke, normal temp…
Thanks in advance
John
Oil pressure gauge erratic
#2 Re: Oil pressure gauge erratic
You have a loose connection. It's either a wiring issue or it is inside the sender. The gauge is a bimetallic strip type gauge, so loosing connection will make the gauge drift down to zero. It'll then rise and resume back to normal when connection is reestablished.
kind regards

Hi. the electric oil pressure sender units can be eratic,
it may be worth considering fitting a mechanical unit for piece of mind.
All the best and happy motoring!

Cheers rob, I am considering that as a winter project, if the sender unit was in a more accessible place I'd do it tomorrow!!!
