A little bit of Restoration required

Hi fellas, hope you are all well, looking for recommendations here, my '71 series 3 has a few areas of rust bubbling, I would like to get these addressed during this winter, have you any favourite body shops in the South east area that would like to take this on?, I'm not looking for a concourse respray, the car is a driver, I just want to catch it and sort it this winter....oh and by the way, I'm skint, so I'm looking for a cheapo solution

Good luck with a cheap solution John. Ive been looking at having my '72 roadster resprayed. In 2019 I was quoted 3.5K and in 2022 5K. Stupidly I didn't act and now the cheapest quote Ive had is 12K...and that is with no welding required!! No-one seems to want the work.

A "few areas of rust bubbling" could turn into a very expensive major job.......I would advise that you start digging into it....if its minor then rub down to bare metal and epoxy prime it to prevent rust then diy or find bodyshop to complete the job.......if its major then you know its not going to be cheap.....but at least you know befor taking it in for work....Steve..ps the only cheap job is diy

I’ve been chatting to the guy that painted mine. He has stopped doing the full respray now as no money in it.
He did mine as a fill in job which turned out fine.
He mentioned that his last job which was a bare metal spray on a Ford capri was charged out at £12k

Don’t get me wrong this isnt a fancy body shop it’s a one man band working hard who no doubt earns a decent living but having known him a while as a friend he isn’t getting rich.

Short answer it’s never going to be cheap!

One of our paint shops has now stopped painting E Types due to there being no money in it. Again, these guys aren't rich - merely getting by. I think for a decent paint job now you have be looking at around £20k (for a full bare metail shell). Price up decent materials for a shock!

Well that’s me out of the game!!!, I’ll stock up on P38 filler, some sand paper and a few rattle cans….
