#1 V12 Engine Rebuild

Post by Johnelliot63 » Thu Dec 18, 2025 6:59 am

Hi,

I’m looking to have my series 3 engine rebuilt and am looking for recommendations for a company to carry out the work. Prices seem very varied. Obviously someone like Tom Lenthall is a safe bet but wonder if anyone has had experience with Rushton Engineering or Turner Classics.

Thanks

These people in Bracknell are good. Done a few E Type engines I know of. Based in Bracknell. They also prepare all the engines for the little a30's that buzz round on Goodwood revival! You have to get the engine to them.

Hi John - in which area do you live? I could provide a contact in the BN6 area but I think it's important to live reasonably close to whoever rebuilds your engine as there may be some issues which require the re-builder's attention after you've run the car for a while eg valve clearance re-setting, timing........etc
After my engine was removed, i had the car transported back to my garage so I could carry out verious work with an open engine bay given that the opportunity is (hopefully) rare. Also good to get the alternator refurbed and overhaul the radiator.....
The "base cost" (which seemed to be the norm) about 3 years ago when my V12 engine was re-built was about £10k. It's probably best to add for a Rob Beare crankshaft seal ( a great improvement on the rope seal but does require re-machining of the crankcase) which also requires a different clutch fitting, add an upgraded water pump.....etc... and the cost of removing and reinstalling the engine, ignition timing, tuning.......
Best

Chris,

Thanks, I’m in the South London area. Doesn’t take long to get on to the M25. The cost seem to be between 8 to 14K at the moment. I have used CMES in Bracknell to rebuild an engine for another car I own and Paul is very good. The only issue is they will not remove or refit the engine so wondering who can do all the work and build a good engine. All of the upgrades you have suggested are on the list.

Thanks

John
